The Comprehensive Vaccine Education Program - From Training to Practice is a combined educational offering to help combat vaccine misinformation and address vaccine hesitancy in two ways.
- Enhancing vaccine knowledge and confidence in having discussions with patients and parents through a web-based education curriculum (CoVER)
- Enhancing access for medical providers to reliable, up-to-date and accurate vaccine information through The Vaccine Handbook: A Practical Guide for Clinicians, also known as The Purple Book. Everyone from physicians and advanced practice providers on the front lines to trainees, nurses, and pharmacists, as well as the patients and parents of patients who receive them, will find value in this resource. This module focuses on the clinical manifestations of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) and will introduce you to the concepts of vaccine efficacy and vaccine effectiveness. Even in countries with high vaccination rates, outbreaks of some VPDs (e.g., measles and hepatitis A) continue. The presented clinical vignettes will enhance your understanding of select VPDs.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this module, learners will be able to:
- Recognize the most common clinical manifestations of a few notable VPDs such as measles and hepatitis A.
- Explain the rationale for administering several specific vaccines including MMR.
- Contrast the concepts of vaccine efficacy and effectiveness.
