PIDS - Vaccine Preventable Diseases (2023)

This module focuses on the clinical manifestations of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) and will introduce you to the concepts of vaccine efficacy and vaccine effectiveness. Even in countries with high vaccination rates, outbreaks of some VPDs (e.g., measles and hepatitis A) continue. The presented clinical vignettes will enhance your understanding of select VPDs.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this module, learners will be able to:

  1. Recognize the most common clinical manifestations of a few notable VPDs such as measles and hepatitis A.
  2. Explain the rationale for administering several specific vaccines including MMR.
  3. Contrast the concepts of vaccine efficacy and effectiveness.
