PIDS - Vaccine Communication (2023)
This module focuses on vaccination-relevant communication methods and interpersonal skills. The module highlights the importance of a strong provider recommendation to patient decision-making, with emphasis on the presumptive approach to vaccination; provides tips on communicating about vaccines in ways that lead to more effective conversations with patients and parents; and emphasizes developing a repertoire of skills and knowledge essential for preventing and addressing vaccine hesitancy in the office setting. 

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this module, learners will be able to:

  1. Assess attitudinal barriers to various vaccines among vaccine-hesitant individuals.
  2. Create a plan for approaching families in each level of vaccine hesitancy.
  3. Model the “presumptive” approach to vaccination.
  4. Based on moral, legal, and clinical considerations, propose a clinic policy regarding the dismissal of families or patients who choose to refuse vaccination.
