PIDS - Bacterial Meningitis (2023)

This module focuses on the clinical presentation of meningitis, emphasizing the bacterial agents for which vaccines are available. 

 

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this module, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify patients who have risk factors for bacterial meningitis.
  2. Evaluate the common clinical manifestations of bacterial meningitis through a history and physical exam of a patient.  
  3. Apply CDC vaccination recommendations to clinical practice, especially as they relate to:
    1. Indication (i.e., to whom the vaccines should be given) and 
    2. Vaccination timing (i.e., when the vaccines should be given)
  4. Explain the rationale for administering meningitis vaccines to patients and their families.
